Epishine selected for printed indoor R2R solar cell project

The Swedish Energy Agency has awarded a total of SEK 240 million to nine innovative projects driving the transition to a sustainable energy system. Among those selected, Epishine, a Swedish energy impact company, was granted SEK 33 million through the ENABLE initiative to accelerate its industrial roll-to-roll production line to meet the rapidly growing global demand for self-powered electronics.

Sustainable power for connected devices

These projects are expected to play a leading role in the global shift towards sustainable energy solutions. Epishine’s contribution of printing organic indoor solar cells provides a sustainable power solution for the rapidly growing number of connected devices, where existing solutions such as disposable batteries not only add to the total cost of ownership (ToC) but also contribute to a growing waste problem. Epishine is currently one of the only companies manufacturing organic solar cells using roll-to-roll printing. This allows the solar cells to be produced in thin, flexible formats that seamlessly integrate into consumer devices. This combination of design flexibility and scalable manufacturing is unique, with cost and energy efficiency that traditional manufacturing technologies cannot match.

“Being selected for this project enables us to accelerate our roll-to-roll production capacity to meet the rapidly growing demand we see from customers globally,” says Anders Kottenaur, CEO of Epishine. “As a global frontrunner in high-performing indoor solar cells, we are driving the transition as the market takes off, making this acceleration both urgent and essential.”

Enabling smarter, more sustainable electronics

Demand for sustainable indoor power solutions is visible across multiple markets, from remote controls and asset trackers to next-generation display technologies. By offering an alternative power solution, Epishine is enabling smarter, more sustainable electronics.

With SEK 33.7 million in direct funding towards the total project value of SEK 74.7 million, Epishine is entering a decisive expansion phase, raising capital to increase production capacity. By scaling roll-to-roll manufacturing, the company is uniquely positioned to meet accelerating global demand.
