At this year’s Sensors Converge, Epishine and NGK were showcasing a glimpse into the future of asset tracking, one that’s slim, smart, and self-powered.
The result of a close collaboration between the two companies is the world’s thinnest asset tracker, compatible with FindMy and only 1.6mm thick, powered entirely by ambient light. No cables. No charging ports. No battery replacement.
Smart design that works with the energy already around us
This innovative product concept combines two advanced technologies to create a fully self-powered tracker:
- NGK’s EnerCera Pouch: A thin, high-performance lithium-ion battery ideal for compact IoT use cases, offering long life and excellent charge/discharge performance
Epishine’s Organic Indoor Solar Cells: Flexible, ultra-thin solar cells optimised to capture energy from ambient light. - Combined, they create a closed energy loop that keeps the tracker running continuously, perfect for use cases like logistics, healthcare, manufacturing, or retail, where uptime and design flexibility are non-negotiable.
“By combining the ultra-thin technologies from both companies, we’re able to present the world’s thinnest FindMy tracker. It’s a strong example of our collaborative innovation in self-powered devices,” said Iwao Ohwada, Vice President at NGK.
A new standard for Smart Tracking
Traditional tracking solutions rely on batteries that degrade, need replacing, or require complex maintenance schedules. This creates friction, waste, and unnecessary cost, especially at scale.
The Epishine-NGK tracker concept addresses these challenges head-on:
- Captures energy from ambient light
- Eliminates battery replacements
- Enables an ultra-slim 1.6 mm form factor
- Supports real-time tracking
- Ready to scale across multiple industries
“This is a clear demonstration of how our collaboration with NGK is reshaping asset tracking, by removing the need for battery changes, enabling ultra-thin designs, and making light-powered, maintenance-free devices a reality,” said Anders Kottenauer, CEO at Epishine.
Powering the future
The development of this tracking device reflects the growing momentum of the strategic partnership announced in 2024 between Epishine and NGK. Together, we’re committed to developing sustainable, maintenance-free energy solutions that meet the needs of tomorrow’s connected devices without compromising design or functionality.
