Masterpress, a European provider of decorative packaging solutions, was nominated in two categories, Sustainability and Converter of the Year, at the Labels & Labeling Global Awards. This makes the company one of the top three label printing and converting companies in the industry. The award was announced during the first Labels & Labeling Global Awards ceremony on 16 September at Labelexpo in Barcelona, Spain.
In the Sustainability category, Masterpress was nominated for developing magnetisable inks for shrink films in collaboration with Magnomer. This solution improves the separation of the printed substrate in PET-on-PET shrink films, where both the bottle and the label are made of the same material and have the same density. The magnetic coating layer remains attached to the shrink label during the recycling process, allowing a magnet to pull out the label flakes, leaving clean PET bottle flakes for reuse. This process significantly increases recycling efficiency and supports the development of a circular economy.
Converter of the Year award
The ‘Converter of the Year’ award recognises label printing and converting companies that have distinguished themselves in the past year through their commitment to a diverse and inclusive workforce, the development of training programmes, contributions to charitable initiatives and the introduction of innovative products or programmes, among other things.
“Masterpress has established itself as one of Poland’s most dynamic label converters and a true innovation leader in the European market. From developing magnetisable inks with Siegwerk to improve recycling, to reducing materials with Taghleef, to pioneering conductive inks for RFID antennas, Masterpress is continually pushing the boundaries of what is possible in our industry. Their ongoing investment programme, including a new state-of-the-art facility, demonstrates a company committed not only to growth but also to shaping the future of labels and packaging,” said Andrew Thomas-Emans, Strategic Director, Informa Markets, organiser of the L&L Global Awards.
L&L Global Awards: A platform for industry leaders and cross-industry collaboration
“We are incredibly proud to be among the top three converters and sustainability leaders in the industry and would like to congratulate Bio4Life and OPM Group on their wins this year,” said Gabriel Magdaleno, Strategic Product Development and Marketing Director at Masterpress. ‘The inaugural L&L Global Awards highlight the value of cross-industry collaboration, which enables emerging players and industry leaders alike to share insights and best practices – particularly important on the path to sustainable packaging solutions.”
“For our industry to move towards sustainable packaging, we must continue to invest in research and development and work more closely together,” added Gabriel Magdaleno. “As we engage with stakeholders at Labelexpo, we are seeing rapid innovation across the value chain, even as regulatory compliance progresses at different speeds. This dynamic presents an extraordinary opportunity for companies to learn from each other and collaborate to collectively drive the transition to more sustainable packaging.”
