DP Patterning has officially opened its new headquarters and manufacturing facility in Norrköping, Sweden. The 3,500-square-metre site will support the company’s continued growth and large-scale production of flexible electronics using its patented Dry Phase Patterning technology.
Unlike conventional manufacturing methods based on chemical etching or conductive silver inks, DP Patterning uses a dry, mechanical roll-to-roll process. The technology can reduce CO₂ emissions and energy consumption by up to 98 percent compared with conventional methods, while eliminating chemicals and process water. DP Patterning is today Europe’s largest manufacturer of flexible electronics and one of the largest globally.
Environmentally friendly roll-to-roll process
“What makes us unique is that we use a mechanical, environmentally friendly process, directly from roll to roll. Because the process is simple, it can be scaled cost-effectively. We have capacity for more than ten million square metres per year, and the new facility gives us the space we need to continue growing,” says Staffan Nordlinder, CEO of DP Patterning.
The new facility was officially inaugurated on 24 September. Guests included Olle Vikmång, Chairman of the Municipal Executive Board of Norrköping, Erik Spector from the Association of Swedish Engineering Industries, and representatives from RISE, LEAD, IEE Sensing and Saab. Tomas Bergström and Mikael Ahlström represented DP Patterning’s principal owner, Byggmästaren.
The programme focused on the journey from research to industrial-scale production, supply-chain security and resilience, and the role of Swedish manufacturing in strengthening European competitiveness.
DP Patterning serves customers across communications, automotive, aerospace and defence, as well as industrial electronics. Across these sectors, traceability, European chemical regulation and secure supply chains are becoming increasingly important.
European electronics manufacturing – “closer to home”
“Europe is looking to bring more electronics manufacturing closer to home, and customers increasingly want to know where their products and components are actually made. Our answer is Norrköping. We use aluminium, a widely available material with more predictable pricing, and we can manufacture at volumes suitable for industrial-scale production. For customers, that means shorter supply chains and a manufacturing partner they can actually visit. The fact that our process also eliminates chemicals and process water is another important advantage,” says Mats Boström, CCO at DP Patterning.
DP Patterning currently employs more than 45 people and continues to expand. The company is recruiting for several positions, with engineers in particular expected to be an important part of its continued growth.
