E Ink, a pioneer and leading global developer of ePaper technology, today announced a partnership with FUJIFILM Imaging Systems Co., Ltd. to establish a large-format colour ePaper signage business, initially targeting the railway sector. Upon successful completion of prototype assessments, the companies will begin introducing select sizes in 2027.

ePaper is increasingly turned to as an alternative display medium in the railway industry, especially due to labour shortages and the rising costs associated with printing, transporting, installing, and disposing of traditional paper posters.

Together, the companies plan to provide end-to-end support for large-format colour ePaper signage, spanning customer proposals, installation, and ongoing operation.
The details regarding the full-colour ePaper sizes and release dates are as follows:

Replacing traditional print posters
“We see significant opportunity for E Ink’s ePaper to replace traditional print posters in Japan’s transportation industry, particularly as our large-format and colour capabilities continue to advance,” said JM Hung, President of E Ink Holdings. “With the visibility of print and the flexibility of digital updates, ePaper helps organisations streamline content changes, reduce printing and material waste, and deliver timely information using very little power.”
“Fujifilm Imaging Systems’ expertise in imaging, printing, colour management, and quality control strongly complements E Ink’s pioneering leadership in ePaper technology,” said Takashi Toyofuku, Director at FUJIFILM Imaging Systems. “By bringing together these capabilities and our established customer relationships, we are well positioned to accelerate the adoption of large-format ePaper—beginning with railway advertising and signage and expanding over time into other industries throughout Japan.”
