On 12 June 2026, Baumer hhs celebrated its 40th anniversary at its headquarters in Krefeld, Germany. In addition to the Baumer hhs team from sales, service and administration – comprising more than 350 employees worldwide – the surviving company founders also attended the event.
“I am particularly delighted to welcome Ms Helmy Sasse, as well as Mr Fritz Kurandt and his wife Dagmar, among our guests,” said Dr Oliver Vietze, CEO & Chairman of the Baumer Group based in Frauenfeld, Switzerland. In 1998, the Group first acquired the sensor manufacturer System Kurandt GmbH, based in Berlin, and three years later hhs GmbH, which had been founded in 1986 by Hans-Henning Sasse in Ratingen. Both companies had previously operated in parallel across various industries, selling solutions for adhesive application, including the associated quality control – and in doing so, enabling significant process improvements in these sectors through pioneering innovations. Under the umbrella of the Baumer Group, they were merged in 2003 to form Baumer hhs, with two production sites at its headquarters in Krefeld and in Berlin. Kurandt and Sasse had sold their companies to the Baumer Group to ensure their continued success.
New momentum
“As a member of the Baumer Group, our company has gained new momentum. We can draw on the infrastructure of a strong group, and its comprehensive technical support strengthens our innovative capacity. As a manufacturer of intelligent, integrated system solutions for the reliable application of adhesives in various demanding industries, we contribute to the success of our group,” says Baumer hhs Managing Director Percy Dengler. “Close relationships with our customers and OEM partners, as well as the question of what added value we can offer them, have always been at the heart of our activities. That has not changed to this day.”
“Partnership, precision and a pioneering spirit” – Baumer hhs supports its customers and OEM partners worldwide in line with these guiding principles. With its own branches in France, the UK, India, Italy, China, Mexico, Spain and the USA, as well as a sales and service network spanning over 120 countries, the company has an international presence. In the global packaging market, Baumer hhs has been a driver of innovation within the industry since its foundation, particularly in the fields of folding carton and corrugated board production, final packaging and the tobacco industry.
“Particularly in the folding carton and tobacco industries, as a global market leader, we are involved in development projects at an early stage. Drawing on our many years of experience, we support our partners in developing solutions tailored to market requirements. Joint development work often takes place here at our solution centre in Krefeld. Our technical facilities enable us to test innovations for their practical suitability,” noted Dengler.
In general, Baumer hhs is frequently at the forefront of further developments in the industries in which the company operates – even beyond the mere application of adhesives and quality assurance. One example is the ongoing digitalisation of the packaging sector, in the course of which packaging is gaining new functionality thanks, amongst other things, to QR and Data Matrix codes. Further examples include Baumer hhs’s founding membership of the 4evergreen Alliance and the company’s SUGRA development partnership.
Improving recyclability and sustainability
4evergreen works across sectors to improve the recyclability and sustainability of fibre-based packaging. The SUGRA (Sustainable Gluing with Renewable Adhesives) research project is developing bio-based, starch-based adhesives that can also be used in high-speed folding carton gluing machines.
Baumer hhs exports around 75 per cent of its products worldwide. “Our company has always taken a holistic approach to developing its solutions. This enables us to perfectly coordinate all components of our complete systems for their respective applications. Our customers can quickly bring these systems into production and benefit from resource and energy efficiency as well as process reliability. This forms a solid foundation for the continued positive development of our company,” said Dengler, looking to the future.
Founded in 1952, the Baumer Group – which currently employs around 2,800 people – is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of sensor technology. The family-owned company’s high-precision and smart sensor solutions for factory and process automation are paving the way to the smart factory for many industries.
