Neuenhauser Vorwald – Short lead times, high availability

The new NVS standard clamping shaft from Neuenhauser Vorwald boasts a production time of just 2–3 weeks. PRO Flexconvert presents this innovation in detail.

Flexibility, availability and speed are becoming increasingly important for manufacturing companies. With the new NVS standard clamping shaft, Neuenhauser Vorwald has therefore developed a pneumatically expanding clamping shaft that is consistently tailored to the requirements of end-users. The focus is not only on technical performance data, but above all on rapid availability, simple maintenance and a high degree of flexibility in day-to-day production operations. A key feature of the new NVS is the short production time of just two to three weeks. Availability can be crucial, particularly for replacement purchases or short-notice machinery projects. Thanks to the standardised design of the NVS, Neuenhauser Vorwald can respond much more quickly and offer users a cost-effective solution. At the same time, the new standard clamping shaft has been designed so that key spare and wear parts are available from stock. For the operator, this means short response times in the event of a service call. If, for example, a valve, a clamping strip or a pin needs to be replaced, the repair should be carried out as quickly as possible and without lengthy procurement processes. The NVS is designed as a cost-effective standard solution for typical winding processes. It is available in 3-inch and 6-inch versions and features an anodised aluminium support body.

Various materials are available for the clamping strips. Depending on the application, the shaft can be fitted with longitudinally grooved aluminium strips, segmented rubber strips or polyurethane strips. This allows the standard shaft to be adapted to different sleeves, materials and process requirements without sacrificing the benefits of a standardised design.

Designed for common Boschert safety chucks

Another key focus of the development is compatibility with standard Boschert safety chuck applications. The NVS is designed for sizes 22–30 and 30–40. For Boschert 22–30, options include 30 x 30 mm square journals and DI 30 triangular journals.

For Boschert 30–40, 40 x 40 mm square journals and DI 36 triangular journals are provided. This makes the NVS particularly suitable for operators who already use corresponding swivel bearing systems in their machines and wish to integrate a new drive shaft with as little adaptation effort as possible. For the Boschert 22–30 size, the standard clamping shaft is designed, in accordance with the technical data, for roller weights of up to 800 kg and a maximum torque of 180 Nm. When used in conjunction with Boschert 30–40, roller weights of up to 1,600 kg and a maximum torque of 350 Nm are possible. The NVS thus covers a wide range of typical applications in winding, slitting and converting processes.

Replaceable journals reduce maintenance costs

The design of the replaceable shaft journals is particularly user-friendly. With many conventional clamping shafts, damage to the journal can necessitate a costly repair of the entire shaft. With the NVS, however, the journal can be replaced separately. This reduces the repair effort and can significantly lower the cost of repairs. At the same time, the economic service life of the clamping shaft is extended, as a damaged journal does not necessarily require a complete replacement of the shaft. The replaceable journals offer a further advantage: it is possible to switch between triangular and square shanks. For production facilities with a mix of differently configured machines, this can considerably increase flexibility. If, for example, a clamping shaft is initially used in a machine with a triangular shank and is later required for a machine with a square shank, the journal design can be adapted accordingly. Older machine fleets, or those that have expanded over the years, in particular, often feature a variety of bearing and journal designs. Rather than keeping a completely separate spare clamping shaft in stock for each variant, the NVS system makes it possible to respond more flexibly to different machine configurations simply by changing the journal. For the end user, this means less tied-up capital, simplified spare parts management and greater operational flexibility.

Rapid spare parts supply and short response times

A key component of the NVS concept is the supply of spare parts from stock. Standardisation makes it possible to provide the required components at

3″NVS short notice, thereby keeping downtime to a minimum. This is of particular importance to manufacturing companies. It is not solely the purchase price of a clamping shaft that determines its cost-effectiveness. Rather, the decisive factor is how quickly a response can be provided in the event of a repair or maintenance requirement. This is precisely where Neuenhauser Vorwald comes in: standardised components, a rapid supply of spare parts and the easy replacement of individual components are designed to help increase system availability in the long term. The NVS should therefore be understood not merely as an individual product, but as part of a service and spare parts concept designed for fast response times.

Different valve variants for day-to-day production

Practical variants are also available for the pneumatic equipment. The NVS can be fitted with a quick-release vent valve or an auto-valve. Rapid venting and vent-filling facilitate roll changes and can help reduce downtime, particularly during frequent production changeovers. The standard clamping shaft thus not only fulfils the actual clamping function but also meets the requirements for replacement journal square VT1 40×40 the simplest possible operation in day-to-day production.

Optional pre-centring facilitates roll changes

The NVS can be optionally fitted with a pre-centring mechanism. This assists with sliding the winding core onto the clamping shaft and positioning it. At the same time, the pre-centring can help to protect clamping strips and core edges during the sliding-on process. Also available as an option is a measuring tape that facilitates the repeatable positioning of the roll on the clamping shaft.

Cost-effectiveness throughout the entire life cycle

The true added value of the NVS therefore lies not in a single technical detail, but in the overall concept. Neuenhauser Vorwald combines a standardised, pneumatically expanding tension shaft with short production times, rapid spare parts supply and a design geared towards simple maintenance and flexible adaptation. For end users, this brings the entire life cycle of the tension shaft more sharply into focus. In addition to the purchase price, availability, maintenance costs and downtime play a particularly decisive role. replacement journal square VT1 30×30

With a production time of just two to three weeks, spare parts available from stock, interchangeable pins and a design compatible with standard Boschert safety chucks , the NVS offers a practical solution to these requirements. A range of clamping strips, valve variants, pre-centring options and a measuring tape expand the customisation possibilities without compromising the nature of a cost-effective standard solution. The new NVS standard clamping shaft from Neuenhauser Vorwald is therefore aimed in particular at operators who do not merely assess their winding technology on the basis of technical specifications, but who also prioritise rapid availability, minimal downtime, flexible application options and cost-effective long-term maintenance. The approach can be summed up in a simple formula: tried-and-tested clamping technology, with a standardised design, flexible application and available within just two to three weeks. www.vorwald.de Image source: Neuenhauser Maschinenbau GmbH, Vorwald Division
