Whether due to inflation or current nutritional trends, consumers are increasingly making conscious decisions when choosing food and value clearly recognisable product quality at the point of sale. Packaging plays a key role in this: it not only protects the product, but also communicates premium quality immediately through its look and feel. The SkinFreshTop portfolio from adapa sets standards, especially for high-quality cuts of meat. The highly transparent skin packaging presents the product optimally, ensures maximum freshness and helps meat processors to make quality visible and clearly position themselves in the premium segment.
The tasks of packaging
Contrary to its often poor reputation, packaging is indispensable, especially for perishable foods, and fulfils a variety of tasks. First and foremost, packaging must protect the product in order to preserve the resources used in its production. Barriers and the right choice of packaging material are essential here. Packaging must also provide information – about nutritional values, the correct method of disposal, taste, brand or product promises. For the latter, the solution is not only a successful design, but the packaging itself can also take on this role through its shape and properties, such as special transparency.
Skin films as a tool for premiumisation
Skin packaging shows meat and fish products in their natural form. The film wraps around the packaging contents like a second skin and secures them in place. Thanks to high contact transparency, the special characteristics of the product – structure, cut or even the special marbling – are clearly visible to the consumer. This ensures an authentic, attractive presentation at the POS, which also allows for upright placement in the refrigerated shelf.
Tailored to customer needs – adapa’s broad skin portfolio
Skin packaging is very specific and demanding in its application and therefore requires particularly high-performance materials. adapa has recently further developed its broad skin portfolio and most recently expanded it to include the new SkinFreshTop Slim film. Michael Egbers, Sales Manager DACH at adapa, explains: “Our goal is to combine product protection, machine runnability and presentation at the POS in the best possible way. With our comprehensive SkinFreshTop portfolio, we are able to respond to the individual requirements of our customers and have the right skin film for almost every application in our range.”
SkinFreshTop Slim for flat applications
With SkinFreshTop Slim, adapa is expanding its skin film portfolio specifically for flat and softer products. The highly transparent, glossy high-barrier film is suitable for fresh boneless meat cuts and processed meat and sausage products with a product height of up to 30 mm. The film can be processed reliably on all common tray sealers and thermoformers. It is available in thicknesses of 80-125 µm and can be cut reliably on all commercially available product carriers. Sealing is reliable both against product carriers with PE and PE peel sealing media and against monomaterials such as PP or PET.
