Last year, tesa, an international manufacturer of adhesive tapes and self-adhesive solutions, expanded its presence in Southeast Asia with the opening of its new site in the Vietnamese port city of Haiphong. In order to intensify local business relations, make new contacts and meet with important political decision-makers, the CEO of tesa SE, Dr. Norman Goldberg, has once again accepted the invitation of the Office of the Federal President this year.
From 22-27 January, Goldberg has visited various destinations in Vietnam and Thailand as part of a business delegation led by German Federal President Steinmeier. The agenda included visits to scientific and cultural institutions as well as talks with representatives of the governments of both countries and regional companies. For example, the Federal President’s delegation visited the Mercedes plant in Samut Prakan, Thailand, to discuss the development of the rapidly growing e-mobility market.
Business relations, sustainability, and skills shortage as focal topics
As part of the trip, tesa engaged in discussions with other participants and local representatives, focusing primarily on economic policy issues. Before the trip, Dr. Norman Goldberg stated, “I am looking forward to intensive discussions with exciting new partners and potential customers. In addition, more complex issues such as the skills shortage in Germany and the Southeast Asia region, as well as the development of more sustainable solutions, are important points of discussion for us. As we expand in Vietnam and increase our presence in countries like Thailand, it is important for us to proactively address these challenges. This trip is a great catalyst for that.”
Important growth market
As one of the most important growth markets globally, Asia holds a central significance for tesa. The company distinguishes between the Greater China and Asia Pacific regions. In Asia Pacific, tesa operates in eleven countries, including India, Thailand, Vietnam, and Malaysia, with its regional headquarters in Singapore. Vietnam serves as a central hub to cater to rapidly growing markets and business segments such as the electronics and automotive industries. The newly opened production facility in Haiphong is evidence of the company’s growth in the region. Approximately 40 million square metres of adhesive tape will be manufactured there annually on a site covering an area of around 70,000 square metres. tesa is expanding local production capacities and optimising supply chains to ensure reliable regional availability of both products and transportation capacities, as well as raw material supply.
