Avery Dennison expands plastic-free RFID inlays and tags portfolio

Avery Dennison has announced the expansion of its AD Pure range, a portfolio of inlays and tags which are entirely PET plastic-free.

AD Pure inlays and tags are sustainably produced with innovative antenna manufacturing technology. The antenna and chips are applied directly on paper, making the range 100% plastic-free. The inlays and tags offer substantial carbon footprint savings of 70-90% compared to traditional inlay manufacturing processes, as verified by independent Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) studies.

The five products in the expanded range include:

AD Midas Flagtag U9 Pure: Designed for item-level tagging on diverse surfaces. It is a cost-efficient UHF RFID on-metal solution for product or part authentication, supply chain, and asset management, compared to foam-based inlays and hard tags. The tags can also be used on plastic and cardboard surfaces as a standard tag.

AD Dogbone U9 Pure: Designed for industry and supply-chain applications, offering excellent performance on difficult-to-tag materials such as cardboard and plastic, glass, and in other demanding close-coupling environments.

AD Belt U9 Pure: Designed for apparel and retail, industrial and supply-chain applications, offering excellent performance on difficult-to-tag or low-detuning materials such as cardboard and plastic, and in other demanding applications like close-coupling environments.

AD Web U9 Pure: Designed for the unique identification of items such as apparel and home essentials. They are suitable especially for item-level retail, logistics, and supply chain applications.

AD Miniweb U9 ETSI Pure: Designed for apparel, retail, industry and supply chain applications, offering excellent performance on difficult-to-tag or low-detuning materials such as cardboard and plastic, and in other demanding applications like close-coupling environments.

“A more sustainable option”

Mathieu De Backer, Vice President Innovation & Sustainability, Avery Dennison, says: “This is great news for our clients, the industry and society. We believe the expanded AD Pure range is offering the market a more sustainable option which can be applied across multiple segments and applications. Crucially, this supports clients with their recycling initiatives, as well as their respective carbon footprint and waste reduction programmes.”
