TactoTek’s long-time partner, Covestro, has introduced Maestro, a demonstrative healthcare device showcasing how advanced materials and electronics integration can support next-generation point-of-care diagnostics. TactoTek’s IMSE (In-Mould Structural Electronics) technology enables the seamless smart surface of the device, designed to meet the hygiene and usability requirements of medical environments.
Integrating electronics into a single moulded part
By integrating electronics and structure into a single moulded part, IMSE makes it possible to create continuous, gap-free surfaces without mechanical buttons or seams. “IMSE is a natural fit for medical devices, where cleanability, reliability, and intuitive user interfaces are critical,” says Jussi Harvela, CEO of TactoTek. “The Maestro demo is a great example of how seamless smart surfaces can support both functional and hygienic design requirements in modern healthcare applications.”
In Maestro, IMSE is combined with Covestro’s Makrolon polycarbonate and other high-performance materials to demonstrate a smooth, illuminated user interface with integrated touch functionality. The concept device also highlights improved reliability, reduced part count, and greater design freedom compared to traditional electromechanical assemblies.
Collaboration with multiple industry partners
Maestro was developed through close collaboration between Covestro and multiple industry partners, including Bally Design, Dukane, Hellbender, Parallel Fluidics, and TactoTek. The project demonstrates how materials, electronics, and design expertise can come together to address the evolving needs of connected healthcare.
