Sonja Eichwede visits Oxford PV

Oxford PV welcomed Sonja Eichwede, Member of the German Parliament for the Social Democratic Party (SPD), on a visit to its manufacturing facility in Brandenburg an der Havel. On site, Eichwede was taken on a tour around the factory, where she was able to see the first European production line for the next-generation perovskite-on-silicon tandem solar cells.

The German Federal Government is pursuing an ambitious expansion path for solar energy, set to triple installed solar capacity by 2030. This target can only be achieved by strategically selecting innovative and competitive technologies and by integrating them into existing and diversified supply chains, while favoring local manufacturing.

Brandenburg as a model area

Oxford PV’s high efficiency solar panels will deliver lower cost energy, contributing to the goal of transforming the Brandenburg region into a model area for the net-zero transformation by delivering on innovation and sustainable value creation. During the factory tour and subsequent discussion, Oxford PV highlighted its capabilities in achieving these goals and exchanged ideas with Eichwede on fostering innovations and strengthening value chains in Brandenburg and Germany as a whole.

In addition to this, part of the discussion with Sonja Eichwede focused on the German government’s past measures and plans for simplifying and streamlining approval procedures. Under the framework of the Net Zero Industry Act, the German government also has the opportunity to designate Net Zero Acceleration Valleys, which could further reduce approval times and foster investment in the selected regions.

Making clean energy more affordable

David Ward, Chief Executive Officer at Oxford PV, said, “We thank Ms. Eichwede for her visit and the opportunity to discuss how Brandenburg can further leverage its skilled workforce and infrastructure to produce next-generation solar technology, contribute to mitigating climate change, and futureproof the region’s economy. Our site in Brandenburg is central to our mission of supplying high efficiency solar technology, making clean energy more affordable for all.”
