Canatu starts mass production of sensors, wins Business Award

Canatu Plc has started mass production and begun deliveries of sensors for electronic device protection to a global technology leader. Delivering the sensors demonstrates the versatility of Canatu carbon nanotubes (Canatu CNTs), highlighting their potential in specialised applications beyond the company’s current focus areas.

Canatu’s sensor is designed to detect unauthorised physical interference in systems that store or process sensitive information. These devices play a critical role in protecting data and maintaining system integrity. Utilising advanced technology, the sensor continuously monitors for physical interference. The device is connected to electronics that continuously monitor and respond to safeguard information. The product stands out for its unique combination of robustness and sensitivity, making it suitable for specialised applications.

Product supply agreement with a global technology leader

The product supply agreement with a global technology leader includes deliveries scheduled from April 2025 to the third quarter of 2026, with corresponding revenue expected to be recognised over the same period. In line with Canatu’s disclosure policy, the agreement is considered to have small (under EUR 1 million) commercial value.

This is an excellent example of the versatility of our carbon nanotubes and how they can be tailored to meet highly specific and technically advanced needs. It also highlights the potential of our technology in new industries.

Juha Kokkonen, CEO of Canatu, says: “This collaboration showcases Canatu’s potential to serve emerging and demanding applications, underlining the adaptability of its CNT technology. Although the current supply is industry-specific and not part of the company’s long-term strategic focus, the project illustrates the breadth of use cases supported by the company’s materials and engineering expertise.”

Canatu receives the Helsinki-Uusimaa Business Award

The Business Award, presented by the Helsinki-Uusimaa Regional Council and its partners, has been awarded annually since 1993. This year, the selection criteria particularly emphasised internationality, growth and development orientation, and responsible business operations. The winning company is a forerunner in its field, with a business model built on a sustainable foundation.

“We see Canatu’s future prospects as very bright in strongly growing markets, particularly due to its distinctive technology, scalable business model, and proven mass production capabilities. In addition, we were impressed by Canatu’s strong customer relationships with leading global companies and its management, which attracts international talent,” states Outi Ervasti, Vitality Manager at the Helsinki-Uusimaa Regional Council and a member of the business awards jury.

Uncompromising work and unique technology

“We are deeply honoured by this recognition. It is a testament to our team’s uncompromising work and the uniqueness of our technology, and it inspires us to continue our work in developing future technologies together with our customers and partners. Our goal to scale production at our Vantaa facility and help build a ‘nano valley’ in Finland not only accelerates growth but also supports the development of technology expertise in the Uusimaa region,” underlines Juha Kokkonen.

The selection decisions are made by an expert jury, which includes representatives from the Helsinki-Uusimaa Regional Council; the Uusimaa Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment; entrepreneurial organisations in Espoo, Helsinki, Vantaa, and Uusimaa; and the Helsinki Region Chamber of Commerce.
