Nichicon and Epishine launch self-charging battery at CES 2025

Nichicon, a global leader in energy storage manufacturing, and Epishine, a Swedish pioneer in printed organic solar cells, have launched the SCB-EpNi-2500-000400, a groundbreaking self-charging battery solution. This innovative power module combines Nichicon’s cutting-edge LTO batteries with Epishine’s ultra-thin, flexible organic solar cells, optimised for indoor light, to deliver a plug-and-play energy autonomous solution for IoT and other low-power electronics.

Klas Engström, Sales Director at Nichicon, states “With the self-charging battery we’re not just launching a product—we’re setting a new benchmark in sustainable power for electronics. Our self-charging battery redefines what’s possible in energy efficiency and integration.”

Advanced technology, easy to use

The partnership between Nichicon and Epishine has resulted in a power module that combines advanced technology with ease of use. Featuring Nichicon’s LTO batteries, known for their rapid charging, high power discharge and long lifespan, together with Epishine’s ultra-thin, flexible solar cells, designed to efficiently capture indoor light, this innovative solution serves as a sustainable energy source for small, low-power electronics. Designed as a plug-and-play solution, the SCB-EpNi makes the transition to light energy easy. Its solder-free assembly connects directly to the PCB, simplifying integration and enabling integrators to focus on innovation rather than complexity.

With ease of use at its core, SCB-EpNi is engineered to reduce development cycles, minimise setup time and accelerate time-to-market for new devices. By enabling large-scale manufacturing and efficient deployment, the product ensures cost savings and scalability for both partners and customers. Visitors to CES 2025 have the opportunity to see this innovation in action and explore how it addresses challenges in sustainability, usability, and cost-effectiveness.

A big step forward for the future of energy and technology

“Launching this product with Nichicon is a big step forward for the future of energy and technology. By integrating light energy harvesting with energy storage, we are introducing an even smarter way to power electronics while contributing to a more sustainable future,” said Hassan Abdalla, Chief Product Officer at Epishine.

This collaboration marks an important advancement in light energy, offering a practical alternative to traditional disposable batteries. Powered by light and designed to last, this innovation eliminates the need for battery replacements. By addressing key challenges in sustainability, usability, and cost-effectiveness, Epishine and Nichicon are setting new standards for powering the next generation of smart devices.
